Caring for a 10-Day-Old Dachshund: Is It Easy?
Caring for a 10-day-old Dachshund is quite challenging, as puppies at this age are still highly dependent and haven't been weaned yet, requiring meticulous attention from their owners.

A 10-day-old Dachshund is particularly fragile and needs very careful nurturing. It's highly recommended to feed the puppy with goat's milk formula, ensuring small, frequent meals. Aim to feed the puppy roughly every two hours, being mindful not to overfeed at each feeding to avoid digestive issues. Maintaining a suitable ambient temperature is also crucial, ideally between 22-25°C (72-77°F). Newborn puppies at this stage cannot defecate or urinate on their own, so owners need to stimulate the anal and urethral areas gently with a cotton swab to aid in elimination. This careful attention is necessary for their healthy development.
As the puppy grows, you should gradually increase the feeding amounts. Once the puppy reaches one month old, you can begin the weaning process. By 45 days, you should completely stop milk feeding and transition to puppy food or puppy milk replacer. This gradual switch helps them adapt to solid foods and grow healthier.
Typically, newborn puppies are cared for by their mothers, and owners just need to make sure the mother is well-cared for. However, if a puppy is separated from its mother shortly after birth, the responsibility of raising the puppy falls to the owner. During this period, it's crucial to ensure the puppy receives adequate nutrition to bolster its resistance and immune system. This includes feeding the right type of puppy formula or food to support their crucial early development. Proper puppy care at this age significantly influences their long-term health and well-being.
