Can You Own a Great Pyrenees in Guiyang? And How Much Does One Cost?

Owning a Great Pyrenees in Guiyang is not permitted. This is because these dogs are classified as large breeds, and their presence in densely populated urban areas can easily cause public concern. Additionally, Great Pyrenees dogs are known to be protective of their owners and can exhibit aggression, making them unsuitable for city living.

The ban on Great Pyrenees in Guiyang stems from several key factors:

1. Large Size

Adult Great Pyrenees can weigh between 40 to 60 kilograms, and some can even reach up to 150 kilograms. Their massive size not only presents challenges for owners but can also cause misunderstandings and fear in public spaces. Consequently, Guiyang prohibits the ownership of Great Pyrenees.

2. Aggressive Tendencies

While Great Pyrenees may appear gentle and docile, they retain a degree of aggressiveness and a predisposition to attack. Furthermore, they possess sharp claws and exceptionally strong teeth that can easily crush bones or tear flesh. Any conflict with a person could have severe consequences.

3. Sensitive Nature

Great Pyrenees are naturally sensitive and prone to suspicion. They are easily disturbed by their environment. The sound of car horns, firecrackers, and construction noise can startle them, causing them to break free from their owners' control, charge around wildly, bite, or bark uncontrollably. These traits, combined with their unsuitability for crowded urban settings, have led to them being added to the banned breed list.

How Much Does a Great Pyrenees Cost?

Typically, Great Pyrenees without any lineage documentation are the most affordable, potentially costing as little as 1,000 yuan. However, it is advisable for those fond of the breed to avoid such purchases, as the lack of pure lineage reduces the true value and appeal of the breed. Pet-grade Great Pyrenees usually range from 1,500 to 2,500 yuan. Purebred Great Pyrenees generally cost around 3,000 yuan, while show-quality dogs can range from 3,000 to 10,000 yuan. The price can be even higher for superior show dogs.
