Can You Own a Basset Hound in Xianyang?

It is not permitted to keep Basset Hounds within the urban areas of Xianyang. This is because Basset Hounds are classified as potentially dangerous breeds, posing significant safety risks in urban environments, hence their prohibition.

Xianyang's urban areas only allow the keeping of small pet dogs with a height of 35 centimeters or less (including 35 cm). Large or dangerous breeds are strictly prohibited. Although Basset Hounds aren't overly large, they are known for their strong temperament and potential safety risks, which makes them unsuitable for urban living in Xianyang. Obtaining a dog license for a Basset Hound in Xianyang is not possible. Therefore, residents should carefully avoid this breed when choosing a pet dog.

Why Are Basset Hounds Less Popular?

1. Basset Hounds, originally small hunting dogs, are known for their fierce temperament and strong aggression. They are often a restricted breed in several cities, limiting their ownership.

2. Basset Hounds present significant challenges in both training and general care. Their independent nature can make them difficult to train and potentially disobedient.

3. Basset Hounds are prone to excessive barking, which can disrupt owners and neighbors.

4. Basset Hounds have a distinct body odor. Without regular grooming and bathing, they can develop a strong and unpleasant smell.
