Signs of a Devon Rex Bonding with Their Owner and How Long It Takes

When a Devon Rex cat bonds with its owner, it will actively seek their presence, staying close and even exposing its belly for rubs. If the owner calls its name, the cat will promptly come to their side.

Firstly, a Devon Rex will not resist being touched or petted by its owner. Instead of shying away when the owner approaches, it will move closer. The cat might rub its head or body against the owner's clothes or body, especially after the owner returns home. The Devon Rex will show extra clinginess, constantly rubbing against the owner and following them closely, as if guarding them.

Secondly, Devon Rex cats will show affection by exposing their vulnerability. Cats are known to be somewhat aloof, but they will only reveal their vulnerable side to their favorite person. For example, they might expose their belly to their owner for a good rub – this is a clear sign of a cat showing affection and trust.

Thirdly, the Devon Rex will be particularly sensitive to its owner's voice. If the owner calls their name, they will respond without hesitation and come to their side, also showing dependency towards their beloved owner.

How Long Does it Take for a Cat to Bond?

Devon Rex cats generally form a strong bond with their owners around three months of age. Cats typically develop the awareness of having an owner between two to three months. This period presents the best opportunity to foster a close relationship. If you've raised a kitten from an early age, they’ll likely have fully bonded after about a month in your care. A bonded cat will be very attached to its owner and will also be able to understand its name. The earlier you start, the better the bonding process tends to be.
