How to Train Your Cat to Stop Disturbing You at Night: Should You Crate Them?

To train your cat to stop disturbing you at night, owners can improve their behavior by playing with them before bedtime, providing sufficient food and water, and neutering or spaying them. It is generally not recommended to confine cats in a cage at night because it can affect their physical and mental health over time.

How to Get Your Cat to Behave at Night

1. Playtime Before Bed

Cats have a natural instinct to play at night, but this period doesn't need to be long. Just 15 minutes is sufficient. Before going to bed, play with your cat for about 15 minutes using a teaser toy, then immediately invite them to sleep. A cat that has satisfied its activity needs can fall asleep quickly.

2. Prepare Food

For cats, besides sleeping, eating is the other most significant activity. If a cat isn't full, it will naturally wander around at night looking for food. Some cat owners who feed their cats at specific times can give their cats a midnight snack before bed; otherwise, they might wake you up in the middle of the night.

3. Spay or Neuter

Generally, a cat's personality will become calmer as it gets older, and spaying or neutering can eliminate the issues caused by heat periods in adulthood. During heat, it’s very difficult to control them, but cats that have been neutered or spayed tend to be more stable and calm.

Should You Crate Your Cat at Night?

It's not recommended to crate your cat at night.

Cats are very fond of freedom. Because they do not like being controlled, cat owners often find that some cats don’t like being held because they see being picked up as a restriction on their freedom. Therefore, cats naturally don't like being confined to a cage.

It's best to let pet cats roam freely, including during sleep, as roaming freely in the house is the healthiest approach for them. If you’re concerned about them disturbing your sleep, simply close your bedroom door before going to bed.Follow us for updates:Pet Training
