White Cat Breeds and the Pure White Domestic Shorthair
Several cat breeds can exhibit a beautiful white coat, including the Turkish Van, Maine Coon, British Shorthair, and Persian. Interestingly, the pure white domestic shorthair is often referred to as a "lion cat" in some regions.

These "lion cats", which are essentially domestic shorthairs, are typically known for their pure white fur. While some may occasionally display yellow or brown hues, the ones with a completely white coat are considered the most prized. These cats are also known for their robust digestive systems, making them relatively easy to care for. The term "lion cat" is not a recognized breed designation and simply refers to a domestic cat with the specific coat color.
The white Maine Coon, with their distinctive long-haired ears, possesses striking large eyes often outlined with dark markings, giving the appearance of eyeliner. Their eye color can vary, including green, gold, copper, blue, and even heterochromia (odd-eyes). The Maine Coon has a rectangular-shaped head and muzzle that aligns vertically with the head, maintaining a balanced proportion. They have a straight nose without a stop, a square muzzle, and black lips that form a straight line with the nose.
British Shorthairs also come in white, although they exhibit a wide range of genetic variations, leading to other colors in their coats and eyes. A popular color variation is the blue and white British Shorthair. These cats are known for their gentle and amiable personalities, which make them well-suited to most households. They are generally considered easy to care for.
Persian cats, with their long and voluminous coats, are known for having a full and layered white coat. However, their personalities can be somewhat strong-willed, so it is best to be patient with them when they are being stubborn. They may hold a grudge if they do not get their way.
