Is it Good or Bad Luck for a Dog to Have Only One Puppy?
There's a common folklore belief that a dog giving birth to only one puppy is bad luck for the family, suggesting misfortune. However, this idea is completely unfounded scientifically. The number of puppies a dog has is related to the dog's size and physiology, not to whether it's auspicious or not. Generally, smaller breeds or dogs having their first litter are more likely to have a single puppy.

Is a Single Puppy Auspicious?
With the gradual improvement of living standards, many families have begun to keep pet dogs. Most dogs will have three or four or more puppies, but some people find that their dogs only have one puppy, and feel that having only one puppy is unlucky for the family, indicating that the family will be unlucky. In fact, this is entirely a superstitious belief. Generally speaking, dogs having only one puppy usually occurs in first-time mothers or in smaller breeds. For example, small breeds such as Chihuahuas very commonly have just one puppy. Additionally, factors like inactive sperm in the male dog, the female dog releasing only one egg, and poor implantation of the fertilized egg can all lead to a dog having just one puppy. These are normal physiological occurrences and have absolutely nothing to do with good or bad luck.
Post-Partum Care for the Mother Dog
After giving birth, the mother dog is usually quite sensitive. If strangers approach at this time, it can easily trigger a stress response in the dog, potentially causing it to bite. Therefore, it’s essential for the owner to create a quiet and comfortable resting environment for the dog and to soothe her emotions.
In addition, you can use warm water to help clean the dog’s body, especially the tail and mammary areas. Be sure to change the bedding frequently and move her to a warm, well-ventilated area to prevent bacteria from growing.Read more here:Pet Breeds
