How Long Does It Take for a Myna Bird to Recognize Its Owner?

Generally, a myna bird will recognize its owner in about two months. However, the time it takes for a myna to bond with its owner can vary depending on the owner's attentiveness and training methods. With attentive care, love, and proper training, a myna bird can sometimes recognize its owner in as little as a month.

How to Train a Myna Bird to Recognize Its Owner

Myna birds are intelligent creatures. Regular feeding by the same person will eventually lead them to recognize their owner. Furthermore, if the owner frequently talks to the myna, the bird will also remember their voice. Over time, the myna will become familiar. Initially, a myna might show hostility towards its owner; therefore, the owner needs to spend time caring for and being around the bird to reduce its fear and gradually build a bond. If the myna is raised from a young age, it will not be shy and will be more likely to bond with its owner. Generally, within two months, a myna bird will recognize its owner.

To speed up the bonding process, in addition to feeding and interacting with the bird, engage in proper training methods. Give the myna bird a name and when it is young, place food in your hand so it can eat from your hand, helping to overcome any fear of humans. Simultaneously, call its name, gradually creating a conditioned response. When you call its name, it will learn that it's feeding time, and slowly get into the habit of flying to your hand for food. The distance can be increased gradually, but do not rush it. Furthermore, give the bird regular out-of-cage time each day. This allows the myna to get familiar with its environment and potentially even perch on your shoulder, strengthening your bond. When it's time to return to the cage, give a verbal command. Over time, the myna will recognize the command and return to its cage on its own.

Signs a Myna Bird Recognizes Its Owner

1. The myna bird won't be scared when the owner approaches, and will allow petting. The myna will not try to hide or bite when the owner is interacting with it, but will happily engage in play.

2. The myna bird will respond quickly to its owner's call, either by making a sound or coming closer. It will completely ignore other people.

3. The myna bird will react to the owner's spoken words and carry out simple instructions.

4. The myna bird will start to mimic the owner's words. It will also stick close to the owner, often perching on their shoulder and showing affection.

5. If the myna bird flies away when let out of its cage but comes back, this indicates that it views the home as its own and the owner as its caregiver.Free access here:Pet Grooming
